William Carl Hawley

September 5, 1959 — March 18, 2026

Bill Hawley passed away in March, leaving behind a life defined by hard work, adventure, and a deep love for the outdoors.

Bill grew up working on the Hawley family fruit farm, learning the value of dedication and perseverance from an early age. He graduated from Shelby High School in 1977 and went on to train and work as a machinist in the Muskegon area. Outside of work, Bill spent as much time as he could hunting and fishing-passions that would eventually shape the course of his life.

In 1999, Bill followed his love for the outdoors to Montana, where he attended a hunting guide and packer school. He was quickly hired and began guiding in Challis, Idaho with White Cloud Outfitters, leading big game hunting and fishing trips. Over the years, he also worked with Ken Smith's Hunting Idaho and Drifters Landing in Kenai, Alaska, guiding salmon and halibut fishing adventures.

After suffering a serious accident in Idaho, Bill made the difficult decision to step away from guiding. He remained in Challis, where his mother and sister had relocated, and channeled his work ethic into building and running Hawley's Wild Game Processing. He later acquired the local meat processing shop and eventually moved his business to Blackfoot, Idaho.

While in Challis, Bill met Cynthia, and the two built a life together. They were married in June 2017, after moving to Blackfoot. In later years, they relocated to Oregon, where Bill returned to his roots in farming. His skill and dedication quickly earned him a management role, and he worked at several farms near their home in Oregon.

Bill was an adventurous soul who took pride in everything he did. Guiding took him across the country and gave him experiences many only dreams of. Whether in the field, on the water, or at work, he was known as an extremely hardworking man who gave his all.

He is preceded in death by his father, Francis Hawley; his mother, Joyce Hawley; and his grandparents, George and Mable Fleming, and Donald and Ethel Hawley.

He is survived by his loving wife, Cynthia Hawley of Oregon; his stepsons, Justin Seymour of Montana and Jordan Seymour of Texas; and his sister, Joni Hawley, and her husband, Bryan Cross, of Nevada.

Bill will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

A memorial celebration will be held later this summer in Shelby, Michigan
