With heavy hearts and deep sorrow, the Romero Perez family announces the passing of Sebero Romero. Sebero passed away at home on the morning of September 28th surrounded by his wife and daughters.
Sebero was born to Jose and Maria del Refugio Romero in Jalpa, Zacatecas, Mexico. As the first boy in a family of 12 children, an enormous expectation was placed on his little shoulders. He found himself working from a very young age to help provide for his mother and siblings. This responsibility continued during his teens and twenties. Sebero spent much of this time working as a migrant farm worker traveling throughout the San Joaquin Valley in California sending all extra money back home to his family in Mexico. During his thirties, he returned to Mexico and married his childhood sweetheart, Sofia. They were neighbors and had known each other since she was 3 and he was 5 years old. Shortly after marriage, they both made the decision to move to the US permanently to start a new life. They settled in Independence, OR and spent the next 41 years building a life for themselves and raising 3 daughters.
Sebero worked his whole life in agriculture, starting at J. Frank Schmidt and Son Co. in the late eighties. His career at J. Frank Schmidt spanned over 20 years and during that time he worked his way from an entry level position to being promoted to Irrigation Crew Leader nearing his final years with the company. Once the company closed the Buena Vista farm location, he left the company and started a new position at Meduri Farms. He worked at Meduri for over 14 years until an illness forced him to retire.
Sebero was known for his strong dedication to his family. He often stated that being a great father and provider to his 3 daughters was one of his greatest accomplishments in life. He was also known for his big heart and great sense of humor. He enjoyed making those around him laugh with his silly banter and quick wit.
He enjoyed being active; the man did not know the meaning of the words rest and relaxation. He was an avid gardener, his summers were spent tending to his expansive garden after work. He also enjoyed taking evening walks with his wife through the neighborhood. He was very much an outdoorsy person, spent many summers fishing in creeks and rivers along the Willamette Valley and many autumns deer and elk hunting in the Blue Mountains in northeastern Oregon. When not outdoors, he found himself watching Atlanta Braves games with his daughters, who are now big baseball fans as well.
Sebero is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Sofia; as well as his 3 daughters, Christina, Susana and Veronica and his grandpup, Sammy. Sebero will be deeply missed but forever remembered through his unwavering devotion to his family and the kindness and friendship he showed to everyone he met.
