Jeanne Marie Twenge, 94, died peacefully with family at her side Saturday March 7, 2026. Jeanne was born in Alexandria, Minnesota October 27, 1931 and was the fourth of four children of Charlotte Nelson and William Arfsten. They divorced and about 1936 Charlotte moved the family to Newberg, Oregon where she married Lyle Reiser. Lyle adopted Jeanne and the family lived on a farm between Gaston and Newberg.
Jeanne graduated from Newberg High School in 1949 and enrolled at Oregon State College. After freshman year she returned to Newberg where she met the love of her life, Carrol 'Mike' Twenge, at a dance hall in Gaston. The Korean War started and Mike was drafted into the army. After a brief courtship they were married on November 4, 1950. Jeanne stayed at Ft. Lewis, Washington before Mike was deployed to Germany. Mike and Jeanne enjoyed 64 years together until his death in 2014.
After Mike was discharged in 1952 they settled down to raise a family first in Newberg before moving to Monmouth in 1960. Jeanne focused on caring for her family as a homemaker but also occasionally worked as a bank teller, bank officer and administrative clerk at Oregon College of Education.
Jeanne loved to read and was an avid walker which she credited to keeping her mind and body healthy. She was a lifelong bridge player and enjoyed playing with friends and family and with the local bridge club. Her love of reading got her involved with the Monmouth Library Board. She enjoyed socializing in the local Beta Sigma Phi sorority. She and Mike loved to spend time with friends and family at their cabin on the Alsea river where she occasionally landed a salmon. She was a faithful fan of the Oregon State Beavers, especially baseball.
Jeanne is survived by sons Michael (Debbie) of McMinnville, Dennis (Dawn) of Monmouth and David (Carmen) of Corvallis; 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Jeanne's death was preceded by husband Mike, sisters Betty and Margaret 'Peggy' and brother William 'Bud'.
