Helen Theresa Herzog of Salem, Oregon died peacefully on August 4, 2004 from age related causes. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday August 11 at 2:00 at Christ's Church - Methodist and Presbyterian United, Whitman and Clay Streets, Monmouth, Oregon. A second memorial service will be held at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Park Ridge, Illinois at a time to be determined. Helen, along with her twin sister Velma, were the first set of twins born at St. Margaret's Hospital in Spring Valley, Illinois on July 21, 1917. On September 11, 1938 she married Earl Herzog of Park Ridge, Illinois. Residing continuously in Park Ridge, this marriage lasted 54 years until the death of Earl in 1992. In July 2003, Helen moved to Capital Manor in Salem, Oregon. Helen is survived by children James Herzog of Monmouth, Oregon; William Herzog of Kankakee, Illinois; Patricia Madsen of Bothell, Washington and five grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by brothers Clifford, Warren, James and Sisters Genevieve, Velma, Margaret and Elaine. Helen was a very active person. She enjoyed painting, water aerobics, travel, and reading. She was a member Christ's Church in Monmouth. Prior to moving to Oregon, she had been a 65 year member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Park Ridge, Illinois. For many years she participated in the Order of the Eastern Star. She especially cherished her time with family and friends. She was very appreciative of the fine personal attention of the staff at Capital Manor.
