Gary Allen May

Gary Allen May, 60, of Independence, Oregon, passed away on February 12, 2026.

Born November 30, 1965, in Eugene, Oregon, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Gary spent his career serving others. He worked at Agri-Tech and HP before becoming a Business and Employment Specialist with the Oregon Employment Department, where he helped individuals and businesses in his community find opportunities and support. Gary earned a Bachelor's degree from Western Oregon University.

Gary loved the outdoors and enjoyed hiking and camping whenever he could. His beloved "pick-me-up truck" -- as he called it -- was his path to the outdoors and the adventures he cherished. He was also known for his quick wit and his unwavering love of dad jokes, never missing an opportunity to bring a smile, a groan, or a laugh to those around him with one of his well-timed puns.

Gary is survived by his wife, Mary Goertzen May; son, Zak May (Makayla); daughter, Zoe May; grandchildren, Audrie and Noah; parents, Ken and Linda May; and brothers, Brian May (Vicki) and Aaron May (Shelly). He was also a beloved uncle to numerous extended family.

A memorial service open to the public will be held on March 7, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Cultivate Community Church in Monmouth.
