Darrell Aune was born November 3, 1942, in Colfax, WA, to Hjalmar and Eileen Aune. He passed away surrounded by his loving family on August 26, 2026.
Darrell attended Lacrosse (WA) public schools, graduating from LHS in 1961. He went to College at Washington State University earning a BA in communications in 1966. It was at WSU where Darrell met his wife, Catherine. They were married on July 9, 1966 in Washougal, WA. They were married for 60 years.
After starting their professional careers in Pueblo, CO in 1966, they moved to Portland, OR, in August 1970. Darrell acted as Sports Director at KEX Radio for 20 years. Darrell's football and basketball play-by-play for Oregon State University lasted for 29 years. Later he spent many seasons broadcasting games for Linfield College, the University of Portland and Western Oregon University.
Darrell was named the Oregon Sportscaster of the Year on 12 occasions and in 1990 was honored with an alumni achievement award from his alma mater, Washington State University.
Darrell loved his family, his friends and sports, especially the Atlanta Braves. Darrell and his sons, David and Brian, made numerous baseball trips to root for his favorite team. Finally, Darrell loved his dogs, and he and Cathy owned many during the course of their marriage.
Darrell is survived by his wife of 60 years, Catherine, sons David and Brian, daughters in law, Miwa and Jolie and daughter Marilou Dietz.
