William "Bill" Karl Scott October 14, 1919 ~ March 20, 2005 Son of Elizabeth and David Scott parents Born October 14, 1919 Died March 30, 2005 Age 85 Born in Pittsburgh, PA Wife: Bertha Scott Sons: Richard Keith Scott and Gary Howard Scott who is married to Barbara Louise Pond Scott Grandsons: Justin Brady Scott and Nathan McKenzie Scott sons of Gary & Barbara Great Grandson: Colby Preston Scott son of Justin Scott William Karl Scott was affectionately known by friends and family as Bill. Bill was baptized a Lutheran and he raised his family in the Lutheran faith. He served his local congregation at Good Samaritan Lutheran Church in Las Vegas Nevada as an usher and greeter. He also served as Directing Fellow at California Lutheran University and he volunteered as a Director of Development for Faith Lutheran Junior and Senior High Schools in Las Vegas, NV. Bill was most proud of serving his nation, The United States of America, in the Army Corp of Engineers on both the European and Pacific fronts during World War II. Bill enlisted May 8, 1941. After 3 months he was promoted to Sergeant. He served in the Combat Engineers as a foreman in charge of 12 men. He supervised their work and tactics in building bridges, roads and establishing defense majors such as mine fields, road blocks, etc. He concluded his tour of duty in the Philippines and was honorably discharged February 1, 1946. For his faithful service he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Star, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, European African Medal, Eastern Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal for Germany, and the Philippine Liberation Medal. Bill also received the Honorable Service Lapel Medal and a Sharpshooter badge with a rifle bar. After the war Bill married Bertha Howard. They were married for 56 years and they have two sons Richard Keith Scott and Gary Howard Scott. Bill was a hard worker with high ethical standards. He was specifically interested in ensuring that the customer was satisfied. Bill was a consummate salesman. As a young man during the Great Depression he sold ice and newspapers and worked at the pool hall and bowling alley to earn money. He was skilled with a pool que and once played pool with Wille Mosconi. Before the War he worked in the Home Loan Office of a Bank in Pittsburgh, PA. He also worked in the men's department at Kaufman's Department Store After the war he began a lifetime career in sales. After a short time with TV and Appliance Distributor Company, Philco hired him as a Regional Sales Manager based in Pittsburgh, PA. In 1955 he was recruited by Magnavox. He was a leading salesman with the company every year for 23 years. Significant achievements included induction to the One Million Dollar and Two Million Dollar Sales Clubs with Magnavox. He was the President's Cup winner in 1971, Magnavox Man of the Year in 1971, and he received multiple awards and citations in sales excellence. In 1974 he was acknowledged once again for sales excellence, but this time in a rather spectacular way. On October 25, 1974 Magnavox hosted Bill and baseball great Hank Aaron at a banquet in the Crown Room at the Stardust Hotel. Magnavox hosted the occasion in recognition of these stellar performers -- Bill for his sales achievements and Hank for being the first baseball player to hit 715 home runs in a career. In 1978 he retired from Magnavox due to a disabling automobile accident. Bill moved to Las Vegas in 1967 with his wife and two sons and was a resident there until his death. Bill was a baseball, football, and auto racing fan. Bill loved automobiles from Studebakers to Cadillac Fleetwood Broughams. He had an excellent driving record and was still driving his own automobile until he was hospitalized in February, 2005. He always dressed impeccably. He was tailored and distinguished. At his death he had silver hair and crystal blue eyes. He is survived by his wife Bertha, his sons Keith and Gary who is married to Barbara, his grandsons Justin and Nathan sons of Gary and Barbara, and his great grandson Colby son of Justin.
